5 November 2026 Ideagroup bathroom furnishings embrace sustainable innovation: Disenia and green hydrogen. Combining solar power with rainwater-based hydrogen production, an innovative system that stores over 300 kWh of energy takes a leading role in a pioneering European project. Sustainable innovation is reflected not only in the products we make. It also comes down to how we use resources and generate energy. Disenia, part of Ideagroup, recently welcomed Italian and Slovenian participants in the H2READY Academy to its facility in Brugnera. The Academy is an initiative of the European H2READY project, co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg Italy–Slovenia Programme. Organised in collaboration with CTS H2, a project partner responsible for developing the technology, the event brought together public authority representatives, technical experts and industry professionals to explore one of the first industrial applications of its kind in Italy’s bathroom furnishings sector. At its centre is a system that converts surplus solar energy into green hydrogen, which can then be stored and used when needed. Sunlight and rainwater: a sustainable energy reserve At the heart of this innovation is its integration with the company’s 220 kWp photovoltaic system. Any surplus energy not used immediately goes towards producing green hydrogen through electrolysis. Rainwater also plays an important role. Collected and treated specifically for this purpose, it is used in the hydrogen production process. The system can store the equivalent of more than 300 kWh of electrical energy in the form of hydrogen, offering an alternative to conventional battery storage. When electricity is needed, a fuel cell converts the hydrogen back into electrical energy. The process also produces around 8 kg of oxygen for every kilogram of hydrogen generated. This is released into the atmosphere as a by-product of electrolysis. By integrating renewable energy, rainwater harvesting and hydrogen storage, the system makes use of resources that might otherwise go untapped. A tangible commitment to industrial sustainability For Disenia, this investment is an important step towards managing energy more efficiently and making the most of the renewable energy it generates. The project also reflects Ideagroup’s broader commitment to responsible growth. Through the everyday efforts of its companies, the Group is working to make sustainability an integral part of its business model, starting with design and extending to materials, manufacturing processes and people. Because sustainability is not only reflected in the products we make, but also in the choices we make throughout the process. read all the news
